The iPhone 5 is coming. This is no rumor, no guesswork, no down-covered photo taken by addition allegedly captivation an iPhone 5 prototype. Apple has set the date and the abode for a absolute artefact launch. Okay, I am accepting advanced of myself a bit. The allure does not absolutely acknowledgment an iPhone 5. It aloof promises we’ll allocution about the iPhone. Yes, a nice little babble with me, Apple CEO Tim Cook and a few hundred of our abutting accompany at Apple’s Cupertino campus. There’ll be coffee and Danish. It’ll be cozy.
What abroad can we apprehend on Oct. 4? Here’s the shortlist:
A Above Redesign
Shortly afterwards Apple apparent iOS 5, the cloud-friendly operating arrangement that will anon abide central accepted and approaching iPhones, there was belief that the iPhone 5 would attending about absolutely like the iPhone 4. The belly would be different, but best bodies could artlessly swath iPhone 5’s in the aforementioned cases as their ahead adored iPhone 4s.
But anon enough, some advertent association spotted new iPhone cases that would in no way abode accepted iPhones or the doppelganger iPhone 5. Answer? The iPhone 5 will be abolitionist architecture departure. Some accept it will be thinner, or conceivably tapered. Others assert it will be wider.

Personally, I adulation the accepted design. I know, antenna abrasion about broke the antecedent iPhone 4 launch, but my Verizon archetypal confused the antenna bar break about and I rarely, if ever, lose signal. Plus, I don’t appeal a added buzz (read “bigger”) phone.
A Faster Phone
Duh! Alike if we didn’t apperceive about the A5 chip, Apple’s custom dual-core CPU, why would Apple do a above artefact barrage after adopting the achievement bar? We await on our smartphones to do added every day; they artlessly accept to get added able — as any acceptable computer should, beneath Moore’s Law. Apple will additionally acceptable access the bulk and affection of RAM—which consistently has a big appulse on performance. These changes will be all-important if Apple does some of the added things we’ve been apperception about.
Better Awning and Cameras
Apple’s Android competitors outshine the iPhone in the camera resolution and awning admeasurement department. On the latter, Apple’s retina affectation is abate than abounding slab Android phones but generally approaches or beats them in resolution. If Apple goes with a beyond screen, 8-megapixel camera and abounding 1080p video recording, it’ll allegation added application to abutment all of them. The bigger screen, in particular, will additionally appeal added array power. Apple’s been actual accurate about array activity (it’s why it fought so continued and adamantine adjoin multi-tasking) and it may accept to access array admeasurement and accommodation to abutment a beyond retina screen.
Voice Recognition
I’ve acclimated Google’s voice-enabled attending app on the iPhone and it is absolutely good. Some pundits accept the iPhone 5 will appear with built-in articulation recognition, which agency added iPhone apps can tap into this adequacy for a array of chic interactions. Apple did access voice-based claimed abettor account Siri aftermost year and hasn’t done abundant with it yet, at atomic not publicly. Talking into your buzz is natural, so what’s not to like about built-in articulation recognition?
4G or Not 4G?
I assumption I’m abandoned in this, but I don’t accord a rat’s abaft about 4G on my phone. My Verizon iPhone does aloof accomplished with its 3G abstracts connection. However, I don’t anticipate Apple can avoid the customer blaring alarm forever. These bodies appeal 4G (look at all the 4G Android phones they’re snapping up). I can’t say their array activity is account much, but at atomic they accept a acceptable time surfing YouTube videos while the allegation lasts. Apple could do LTE 4G, the arch option, but alone if it’s assertive there’s abundant affection 4G out there. I’d say there is and the buzz will ably impaired bottomward to 3G anyway.
If Apple does go 4G, however, it’s a acceptable bet the iPhone 5 will be beyond than the conspicuously pocketable iPhone 4. 4G needs an abounding array for a abounding day’s use. Big batteries accomplish for bigger phones.
No Shopping
Back back Google alien Google Wallet, a technology for axis one NFC-enabled buzz (the Nexus S 4G) into a wallet/credit card, there was a belief that companies that weren’t included in the accord — such as Visa — ability angle up with Apple. All Apple had to do was put an NFC (Near Field Communication) dent central the iPhone 5 and the blow would be easy. Now, however, Google has managed to assurance up Visa for Google Wallet as well. I’m not assertive Apple will see any amount in the added amount of an NFC dent back there are no bright partners, and alike beneath authoritativeness that consumers are accessible to alpha advantageous with their phones.
More Carriers
Apple now has both CDMA and GSM phones. Ubiquity is how to comedy the antagonism game. I apprehend Apple to acceptable at atomic one new carrier accomplice to the table. My money is on Sprint (which, like Verizon, uses CDMA). T-Mobile is out. AT&T is aggravating to buy them and it’s bright Apple wants any allotment of that mess.
iPhone 4S
Sprint may not get the iPhone 5, however. Since I do apprehend that to be a 4G phone, my assumption is that Apple goes with Verizon and AT&T as the aboriginal two carriers. Sprint will get a altered phone, the lower-powered, still 3G, iPhone 4S. These are alone my predictions. The alone affair I can agreement is that Apple will accept an accident abutting anniversary on Oct. 4th at 10 a.m. There will be coffee. There will be Danish. There will be an iPhone 5.
